Playground Update - Final Weekend!

I think we are all in agreement when we say that the new playground is going to be the hit of the park this summer!  There are just a few finishing touches to be done but for the most part the new playground is IN!

A big thank you to everyone who gave their time and effort to making this huge project a success!

Playground Update - Work Weekend #2

We had fantastic weather both days this past weekend for the playground work party.

Thanks to everyone who came together to help!

Playground Update

Today started out with a focus on figuring out what to do with the logs that lined the playground.  It quickly snowballed into clearing the entire space!

Enjoy the pictures of the work that a small group put in, it didn't take long.

Next weekend we will start with the following tasks:

- We have a square landscape scoped, but need to tear out grass and rake around dirt and level the entire space.

- We will need to stain the wood edge that will be going in, and once dried, place all borders.

- Break out into teams to figure out each play item and figure out first steps, placement, cement needs, etc. according to layout plan.

Ray also would like a couple experienced dock workers to do some maintenance.

See you next weekend!

Playground Details

Let's dig in to what the new playground is going to look like!

To refresh your memory, here is a shot of the current playground which doesn't get much action these days due to design, age, and weathering.  To expand, most of the wood is rotting and splitting creating an unsafe play environment for children.  The ground cover consists of dirt and pebbles and the swings are beyond repair.

The new playground was thoughtfully designed to accommodate different age groups including toddlers, kiddos, tweens, and even adults!

Please remember to take a minute the next time you are at the lake to thank Sarah Kautzman and Andra Mancer for spearheading this project into reality!

Monkey Bar Structure

  • Reuse the structure
  • Remove the slide as it holds water, is very dirty, and never used
  • Refresh with stain
  • Turn the lower house into a kid playhouse with a shower curtain
  • Spray for bugs + spiders

Baby Swings

  • Move swing structure beside the monkey bars/playhouse to keep the little kid zone together

  • The top is slightly angled by 15 degrees to allow for natural motion for users.
  • Unlike ground-level spinning events, the overhead spinner will only allow users of age and proper height to grab and use the event.

New Playground Mulch

  • Proposal includes some type of recycled rubber playground mulch
  • Little to no annual maintenance
  • Maintains beauty even after years of exposure to the elements

We hope you enjoyed this preview.  Remember this playground can't come to life unless we have people to help tear down the existing structures and build the new ones!
